/research:
goal directedness and
intentions
Cognition is for doing, not for thinking. To do is a matter of action, and action is defined as intentional or goal-directed when it is tuned to the task under an agent’s control. Goal, here, is defined as a state that guide individuals’ pursuits. A goal is telling us not only how the world is, was, and will be but also how the world should be and how the organisms would like the world to be. This point is crucial because it is tied to intentions.
The concept of motor goals constitutes the core of what intentions represent, that is, goals and means to achieve those goals. Our research aims to study if the movements plants exhibit are not the result of a basic cause and effect mechanism, but they are driven by an “intentional” component to achieving their goals.
